On the first Sunday of this year 2025, Nicolas Seguy kicked-off his digital story-telling book and posted his first clip. Each Sunday, he will post an additional one-minute clip on social media to present a chapter of his 20-year career.
The last twenty years have been very rich for this talented artist. Inspired by DJ Mehdi, he wrote and played the piano of Grand Corps Malade's first album, supported and continues to play the piano with Kery james during his concerts, and keeps very busy with a myriad of other artistic achievements.
SelFou discovered all this when doing its due diligence prior to its first meeting with Nicolas Seguy in December 2024. Although an approach and methodology were scheduled, Nicolas kept SelFou on its toes by derailing the plan. The methodology was put on the back burner, Nicolas' beat resonated for a six-hour stint, Once he walked out of the SelFou Paris office a plan was hatched. To tell his story through a series of clips/chapters that would help develop new listeners, followers and engage his existing fans.
So... What is the link between this and digital transformation? Well, twenty years ago, when DJ Mehdi did not have all the digital tools Nicolas currently has. Nor did the latter when he started in 2005. The Internet was still fresh and social media was only arriving. So for Nicolas to be producing clips in-house in his studio, with images, sound, live recording, editing, and soon recording and editing remotely is a small digital revolution... then, using social media as a means to market, well... it changes the face of the music industry promotion.
Twenty years ago, artists launched their albums through a tour and advertising. Now, although tours may support a launch, marketing is done through social media. And Nicolas' approach is one of intimacy with his listener, hand-holding through a series of chapters that explain who he is. This book will unveil, on a weekly basis, how this 42 year-old piano maestro has changed name, style, and exhibits a polyvalence that he puts to good use in advertising, cinema, theatre, music and so many other vehicles. It will show how it makes sense. Help listeners relate.
Now, from the comfort of his studio, Nicolas can bring listeners into his intimacy, tell his story and reach out to hundreds of thousands of fans and potential new followers. All this through digital transformation of the music industry. Certainly you may say this is not new: many artists have owned their studio. But Nicolas does not have the means these artists have. That is the revolution: Digital is now affordable, accessible and relatively easy to use.
Digital transformation we think is for big corporations, or governments. But it is also part of our daily lives. It is something we use many times a day: we withdraw money for a bank - not having to go inside to the teller; we go on the internet to see our blood-test results; we pay our income tax all from the comfort of our own home. Behind all these tasks there are people who change/transform industries, organisations, processes, technology to enable us to be digital users.
Digital transformation is of course part technology, but it is also data, people/culture and processes. It may seem complex, but SelFou.digital will endeavour to bridge the gap between this industry and our day-to-day lives. It will also try to debunk the myth that not everyone is concerned or has a role to play in this industry. Because as citizens of this planet, we all have to play our part. Hopefully, SelFou.digital will help make that happen.
